FRANKFURT RHINE-MAIN REGION
Great food and wine, half-timbered houses!
The Frankfurt Rhine-Main region has gained a reputation as being one of the most diverse regions in Germany and visitors will find virtually everything that is associated with Germany -great food and wine, half-timbered houses, beautiful countryside with many opportunities for outdoor activities, friendly people, enchanting rivers and historic towns. Few other regions in Germany offer such a wide range of opportunities within such short distances. Whether your choice is Rüdesheim on the Rhine, or Aschaffenburg on the Main, day excursions are a piece of cake!
Frankfurt - a visit to Sachsenhausen and the traditional apple wine restaurants and general sightseeing, including the brand new Old Town, will change the whole feeling
of visiting the city. It`s a perfect start, or end, to a tour flying from Frankfurt International Airport.
Aschaffenburg – to see the Johannisburg Castle and the Pompeiianum, a Roman villa inspired by excavations in Pompeii. This Bavarian city is only a 40 min. drive from Frankfurt. Here, you can enjoy beer tasting (with Faust beer amongst others) at the restaurant Schlappeseppel for example, serving traditional, German food with beer.
Further on to Miltenberg, also in Bavaria, a true gem and only an hour from Frankfurt. This medieval half-timbered town is really beautiful, hosting Germany’s finest brewery – the Faust Brewery offering great tours... Hic!
Let`s not forget about the Rhine!
One of the highlights of the Rhine, the Rheingau, is situated an hour from Frankfurt. One of the most famous places here is Rüdesheim, a pearl along the Rhine in The Upper Middle Rhine Valley (with amazing Riesling!). The Ring Ticket and the Romantic Tour are two great options
for discovering the area in a day, including a cable car, chairlift and boat tour on the Rhine with an optional visit to the Rheinstein Castle.
Wine tasting should definitely be on the tour in this
area. There are different options apart from visiting a winemaker or having a wine tasting in the vineyards, such as taking part in a WINEWALK or WINETIME.
One of the most enchanting places in the Rheingau is
the Eberbach Abbey, where the film “In the Name of the Rose” with Sean Connery was made. It offers amazing wine tasting tours in the abbey and has a great restaurant in the former stables of the abbey. Absolutely wonderful!
In Mainz, you will find the wonderful Gutenberg Museum, demonstrating the original printing press as well as the first printed bible, a unique experience!
See life and work at the St. Hildegard Abbey close
to Rüdesheim, founded at the beginning of the 20th century. The Benedictine nuns are still living here, making wine and other products, which can be tasted when you visit.
This is more than a region – it is a country in its own right!
Frankfurt Rhine-Main, Germany – fly to Frankfurt and explore!
