EVERYONE WANTS TO BE PART OF A WINNING TEAM
After four years at the throttle Dan Ford has really got his foot (right hand) on the gas at Poole Speedway. Now in his fourth year as promoter of Poole Pirates in the SGB Championship, Dan has shown his strengths after enduring his first two years at the club during covid in a baptism of fire. He is the first to admit that stepping into his father’s, Matt Ford, shoes at that time was a challenge. But as restrictions lifted, the team kept delivering the silverware, and the crowds kept coming – today the Pirates are stronger than ever.
Dan is a grafter, and he is smart promoter, and has made many improvements to the club. He has improved the quality of racing through the delivery of tonnes and tonnes of new materials on the track at Wimborne Road, delivering a smooth and fast racing surface which the rider’s favour.
And talking of the riders, it’s a young team this season, the Cook brothers have developed so much during their time at the Pirates, Richard Lawson is now referred to as the ‘point scoring machine’, and the Pirates proudly ride the newly crowned Under 21 British Champion Sam Hagon in the fresh team alongside Tom Brennan who
is also in his first season at the club, and has turned his form and fortunes around since riding for Poole! The club is as well oiled as the bikes themselves!
Dan is honoured to be promoter of the club, and knows that it comes with some serious pressure, the crowds are always after the silverware and in turn Dan has a
hunger to deliver for the fans, and the loyal sponsors that support the team every year with pride and they take a really positive role at the club.
“Everyone wants to be part of a winning team.” Ford says. “I have great hopes for the ’24 season, it’s looking really good, with the new team dynamics and we’re unbeaten at home to date, but it’s no time to rest on our laurels, this sport can change in a flash, the beast can turn so we take each fixture at a time and keep
the results on our side, and that’s when we’ll bring the silverware home!”
While in Dorset, get down to Wimborne Road, a Wednesday night between March and October will offer you and the family a night to remember. It‘s high octane, it’s thrilling and it’s rewarding – because everyone wants to be on the winning side!
