When Tiien Thai Restaurant was established in Bournemouth many moons ago in 2010, it instantly, as the impressive entrance opened for the first time, shot right to the top of the dining offering in the area. It was intentionally way above the standard of the competition. And, the restaurant was, as it is now, cultured in its design and abundant in authentic Thai cuisine, served with humility, promptness and a big smile. Today, others try to follow in the wake of owners Medi and Noi, but few make the grade. Certainly, none have stood the test of time...
To add to the success and longevity of Tiien, there are another two more Tiiens in Broadstone and Southbourne both of the same standard, welcoming diners from the wider areas of Dorset.
And the welcome is the first thing that will strike you, the team’s smile is broad, the presentation is colourful, and they are truly happy to be accompanying you through your meal with beaming grins and namaste.
All the tables are set in dark-wood rustic surroundings, the Bournemouth restaurant has a bar area and split-level dining with several areas for private dining and parties which caters for everyone – and it is on the Westcliff a mere 100m from the stunning views over Poole Bay and the Purbecks.
The menu is just wonderful, delight in a cocktail while you decide on your order, and in the summer months maybe dine alfresco on the huge sun-drenched terrace.
Start with mixed hors d’oeuvres of spring rolls, barbeque chicken wings, chicken satay, prawn toast and Thai fish cakes (there is also a vegetarian option here; vegetable spring rolls, glass noodles, sweetcorn cake, mushrooms on toast, tofu, mushroom and onion skewers), or deep- fried squid, aromatic duck and various deliciously light tempuras. There is a good selection of beers and wines to choose from as well.
Main courses of fish, pork, chicken, beef plus vegetarian and vegan delicacies are generous and colourful packed with flavour. There are many sides to choose from –
the sticky rice is quite something and the stir fries are wonderful – choose your stir fry with cashews and chillies, garlic and peppers, Thai basil and chillies and of course sweet and sour...
As darkness falls the myriad of candles shed a sophisticated light on the bustling restaurant.
There is a Tiien Thai near you, wherever you are in the county, and you can order in of course through several delivery firms.
But in our opinion Tiien Thai is best served in-house,
the experience is sublime, the quality of offering is consistently above any in the Bournemouth area, and it is so very central.
Plus, you know you are in good hands when the owners are at the helm, warm, slick and sophisticated with a Thai menu that satisfies all.
Welcome to Tiien Thai, you have a delicious journey ahead of you.
