THE CURE FOR ANYTHING IS SALTWATER,
...sweat, tears and the sea!
Swimming gets under your skin, in your soul and becomes part of your heart. Swimming is so much fun, we live on an island after all, it’s in our blood – yet it can, conversely, be exceptionally dangerous. And the more one swims perhaps the more nonchalant one becomes?
That is why we have a rule in the swimming community, on the beach, in the rivers and lakes and along the coast to Dover, where the English Channel beckons – that we have at least one swimming buddy with us at all times in the water, and that is a Swim Secure tow float.
Enjoy has been working with Swim Secure for several years now and we have watched with joy as the brand has gone from strength to strength, saved innumerable incidents in the water from accelerating – thanks to visibility for other water users, floatation for a break for the swimmer when needed, and for storage of vital kit such as phones, dry clothes and warm drinks.
Swim Secure is a trail blazer, many have followed but have failed in terms of durability and passing the all- important stamp of approval from RLSS UK – the Royal Life Saving Society, Swim Secure is an official partner, something others in the market remarkably lack.
This partnership in drowning prevention is inspiring, it works from grass roots, or should we say seaweed roots – in 2022 the RLSS educated over 1,500,000 children in water safety for free! They award over 200,000 water safety awards and qualifications every year and there are over 9,000 members supporting the charity in the UK
– the objective is simple; to give children the chance to enjoy a lifetime in the water safely...
That’s what it is all about, I have an attempt at the English Channel in a relay team in 2024, we all train with a Swim Secure float, and I have promoted myself to their new Hydration Float to carry warm drinks while training in sub 15°C water... and that float will also be making its way to the USA for the four-mile swim across the Straights of Mackinac in Michigan as well!
Swim Secure is all about safety, with that intelligent nod towards everyone in the water, whatever their goals, objectives or age.
With all this in mind – if swimmers are safe, it’s always going to be fun in the water – fun is something I shall try to remember while qualifying in such chilly waters in the months to come, with my warm flask to hand...
