ILLUMINATING BRILLIANCE!
From this hive of ingenious life-improving innovation
we are delighted to have given its Flashlight a run for its money, in fact a run, swim, hike, kayak, bike, food review and a few nights under the stars for its money. This is one versatile piece of kit!
Glowstone is the brainchild of Thomas Gostelow whose mantra is to ‘optimise everyday life’, and for anyone reading this who has been left in the dark thanks to flat batteries, poor lumens or damp surroundings – let me turn you on to this revolutionary new flashlight.
A beautifully designed product that is a must-have
in so many environments. It’s the new generation of lighting, indeed it has done for the flashlight what mobile communication did for the good old telephone – it delivers freedom!
It’s compact, waterproof and bright (900 LM) with an illuminating life of between one and 50-hours in any one of its eleven modes, and it is beautiful to handle thanks to its rounded, smooth and sealed silicone shell.
This flashlight doesn’t have a handle (unless you attach the grip supplied from the handsomely presented Essential Pack) and it doesn’t need battery replacements – it is flat, and it charges quickly on any wireless charger – including its own which is also supplied in each of the five flashlight packs available.
With a two-hour charge time and a seven-hour ‘daily use mode’ and an equally impressive four- and-a-half-hour life in ‘bright mode’
you can’t go wrong.
There are nine other modes that can cater for all eventualities, on your
bike, keeping the kids in comfort all night, underwater (the last two assets aren’t necessarily linked!), and there’s even an SOS setting.
The flashlight’s flat design is easily attached to the head strap, belt clip,
camera mount and grip, which also
morphs effortlessly into a mini tripod.
The light itself is daylight balanced so, for me as a photographer, it has also made its way to a couple
of product and food shoots that I have done for this magazine, its light spread evenly through 180 degrees and on a more practical note, the flashlight is light (excuse the string of puns) weighing in at just 75g fully loaded, considering that two AA batteries weigh nearly 50g alone!
I have taken it running at night – the head strap is designed intelligently; it doesn’t slip, and the arm strap boasts that same ergonomic benefit. Those runners and hikers amongst us all know the inconvenience and distraction of repeatedly adjusting kit.
Thomas muses: “We have two hands for several practical and recreational reasons, and at no point was one of those reasons holding a torch!”
At risk of being insulting you can also stick the flashlight – anywhere you choose frankly as it has a canny nano suction pad in the accessory pack that can be adhered to the back of its compact shell, allowing it to be temporarily stuck literally anywhere that is flat!
I note that this product has predominantly succeeded in the consumer market to date, yet I can really see its route into the commercial domain – its potential is huge for organisations such as the forces, the RNLI, diving schools, swimming organisations, running clubs, photographers, adrenalin junkies (the flashlight is compatible with Go- ProTM accessories), safety on two and four wheels, on foot, and on horseback.
It can also survive the worst that the mountains can throw at it in terms of outside temperature, and it is a sturdy bit of kit – it is virtually indestructible, and completely watertight.
We love the Glowstone Flashlight, and we thank Thomas for being an ingenious and brilliant being and bringing his own light of improvement to a predictable and somewhat flat world of illumination!
